Saulteau First Nation to receive $80,000 for clean energy project

first_imgThe BC Government’s Community Energy Leadership Program has provided the Saulteau First Nation with $80,000 in funding that will support a biomass heating project that will displace propane use in greenhouses, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 110 tonnes per year.This year, CELP approved 7 projects across the province for a total of $250,000 in funding, including solar power, biomass heating, and energy retrofits to local facilities.The four energy efficiency projects will result in 5,819 gigajoules of energy savings annually. The amount of energy consumed each year in a typical Canadian home is about to 120 gigajoules.- Advertisement -This move with save the community approximately $77,000 in fuel costs annually.Peace River South MLA Mike Bernier congratulated the Saulteau First Nation for their initiative to reduce greenhouse gas.“Projects like these advance British Columbia’s growing clean energy sector and strengthen our reputation as a world leader in energy efficiency initiatives,” he added.Advertisement CELP will also reportedly provide $1.3 million over the next three years to help communities implement local energy efficiency and clean energy projects.last_img read more
