Premier League team of the weekend: Liverpool, Tottenham and Man United stars included

first_img 11 11 Right wing – Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) – The Belgian’s brilliance this season will be an added thorn in Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho’s side at the moment. If De Bruyne isn’t scoring goals he’s laying them on and against Southampton he netted the first and created the other two in a 3-1 victory. He looks well worth the £55m they handed Wolfsburg for his services. 11 11 Goalkeeper – Costel Pantilimon (Sunderland) – Sam Allardyce believes clean sheets are the key to the Black Cats’ survival this season and the Romanian shot stopper is helping them do that after two wins in a week. The ex-Man City man made a key save from Jonathan Walters at 0-0, allowing Sunderland to go on and win 2-0. His form will be vital to their hopes of remaining in the Premier League. Central midfield – James McArthur (Crystal Palace) – Not only did the Scotland star score a couple of goals, he played a key role in the Eagles’ demolition of Newcastle United. While Wilfried Zaha and Yannick Bolasie left their opponents dazzled, McArthur kept the entire game ticking over, completing 92 per cent of his passes. 11 Left wing – Robbie Brady (Norwich City) – As the Canaries held an injury hit Arsenal side to a 1-1 draw, Irish star Brady came out of the match with plenty of praise. He got the assist for Lewis Grabban’s goal but also worked tirelessly throughout to ensure Alex Neil’s men hung on for a vital point against the Premier League title challengers. Attacking midfield – Ross Barkley (Everton) – Following a tough campaign last year and criticism from Roy Hodgson, Barkley is looking close to his best again. His late strike against Bournemouth should have handed Everton a win, but was cruelly denied the glory by Junior Stanislas’ second of the match in a 3-3 draw. He’s been doing his homework by studying stars like Paul Scholes and Zinedine Zidane and it looks like it’s paying off. 11 Attacking midfield – Yannick Bolasie (Crystal Palace) – The skilful Selhurst Park star showed no mercy against Newcastle United as he hit two goals against them in a 5-1 win. Bolasie’s dazzling dribbling skills gave the Toon no end of problems and he’s reaching the form which saw manager Alan Pardew rate him at £60m at the end of last season. Cente-back – Daley Blind (Manchester United) – Playing in a back three against Leicester City, the Dutchman was in excellent nick and helped the Red Devils claim a 1-1 draw by plonking a first-half corner on Bastian Schweinsteiger’s head. Chris Smalling has taken most of the plaudits this season but Blind deserves credit too, especially after this display. 11 11 It was another record-breaking Premier League weekend as Jamie Vardy scored for the 11th successive match as Leicester City drew 1-1 with Manchester United.Around the rest of the division there were plenty of thrills, spills, comedy errors and late goals. But who were the stars of the action? talkSPORT names its team of the weekend here.Click the right arrow above to see how made it into our line-up… Cente-back – Toby Alderweireld (Tottenham) – The Belgian has been imperious for Spurs this season and was superb again against Chelsea. Having to deal with the roaming threats of Eden Hazard, Pedro, and Oscar, he and Jan Vertonghen came out on top, restricting the Blues to just one shot on target. He made 15 clearances during the match and pulled off some brilliant passes on a tricky afternoon in the swirling wind. 11 11 11 Left-back – Alberto Moreno (Liverpool) – The marauding Spanish star is getting back to his best at Anfield, which will please manager Jurgen Klopp. He made six successful tackles against Swansea City and five interceptions in an excellent display. Right-back – Adam Smith (Bournemouth) – The former Tottenham academy graduate came into the match at half-time but made an excellent impact on the Cherries’ clash with Everton. He scored a stunning strike for Eddie Howe’s men and played a part in their late, late equaliser as they dramatically drew 3-3. Striker – Jamie Vardy (Leicester City) – Who else? The England star took his record-breaking goal well, following Christian Fuchs’ outstanding pass, but his all-round display was also superb. His work rate is phenomenal and he’s happy to get stuck in defensively as well as scoring goals.last_img read more
