Ashok Tanwar skips Gurugram event

first_imgInfighting within the Haryana Congress shows no signs of abating as former State unit chief Ashok Tanwar skipped the party’s manifesto committee meeting and the “Pehle Report, Phir Vote” campaign in Gurugram on Friday.“There’s no point in attending the [manifesto committee] meeting. When I was the president, these leaders who are at the helm [referring to new State unit chief Kumari Selja and former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda) never cooperated with me. I will reciprocate the same way,” he told The Hindu. Mr. Tanwar said he was not aware of the party’s Gurugram programme. “I am not aware of today’s programme. Although it should have been launched earlier, I wish them all success,” he said.“It’s the responsibility of the new incumbents to take along other leaders and party workers. We all our working towards the same goal of strengthening the party and throwing out the ruling BJP from Haryana,” the former PCC chief said.Mr. Tanwar has not been attending party meetings, be it to decide candidates or on shaping the campaign strategy for the Assembly elections. He has instead been holding parallel meetings with his supporters. “We will continue with our election campaign separately… like they were doing by holding rallies when I was the State [unit] president,” said Mr. Tanwar.last_img read more

Grappler Sushil realises his Commonwealth

first_imgSushil Kumar has won laurels galore at international meets but there was an unfulfilled dream for the champion wrestler. The freestyle grappler won a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and a gold at the World Championships in Moscow last month. But winning a Commonwealth gold medal in front of his home crowd on Sunday gave him a unique satisfaction. “Medals at the Beijing Olympics and World Championships would always remain the most cherished achievements of mine but it is a different feeling altogether when you win a medal in front of your home crowd,” Sushil said on Monday. He defeated South African Heinrich Barnes in the 66kg freestyle to win his maiden Commonwealth Games gold. “These three medals that I have won in the last couple of years cannot be compared with each other because all of them have their own relevance.”I won this gold at the Commonwealth Games and to win a medal in front of the people who have supported me and backed me all these years gives me an altogether different feeling,” he added. Wrestling contributed 19 medals in the Indian kitty, including 10 gold, and Sushil is confident that the tally will only increase as he targets the London Olympics.”All our wrestlers are at their peak and hopefully we will maintain the same form in future as well. A gold at the London Olympics is what I am aiming now,” he said. For Narsingh Yadav, who was nowhere in the scene for a place in the squad a couple of months back, justified his selection with a gold in the 74kg category.advertisement”I was second at the selection trials and got an opportunity to play only after the wrestler, who was originally selected, flunked the dope test. It is very satisfying for me that I have justified my selection.”Now, I hope to win a medal at the Asian Games, and Olympics is something that everyone dreams of,” he said. Meanwhile, Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president G.S. Mander confirmed that freestyle wrestling has been included in the next Commonwealth Games. He said all efforts are being made to ensure that all three categories (freestyle, Greco-Roman and women’s) remain a part of the Glasgow Games. “As for now, freestyle wrestling will be there at the Glasgow Games. But we are trying to get the other two forms of wrestling included as well,” Mander said.last_img read more

Will Aamir Khan’s Midas touch work for Dhoom 3?

first_imgActor Uday Chopra hopes Aamir Khan’s Midas touch works for the third Dhoom franchise. Aamir plays the bad man in Dhoom 3, which will see Abhishek Bachchan and Uday reprising their roles as Jai Dixit and Ali, respectively.”Now the pressure is on Aamir. With Aamir, whatever he touches turns to gold and with him in a brand like ‘Dhoom’, it makes it bigger than anything else. We are all excited,” Uday said. The first two movies of the Dhoom series found stupendous success. While John Abraham played the conman in the first installment, released in 2004, Hrithik Roshan took the baton for the 2006 film Dhoom 2.Apart from Aamir, the new entry in the Dhoom series is actress Katrina Kaif. Produced by Aditya Chopra, it is slated to release in 2013.Uday, who is focussing more on the Hollywood wing of his home banner, has been preparing for the movie. He even ended up in an accident while practicing a bike stunt called ‘stoppie’, but he says he is fine now.”I was shooting for ‘Dhoom’ on the motorcycle and I sprained my leg. It wasn’t that bad,” he said.Other than this, he says he doesn’t need to prepare much because he has played the role twice and is comfortable with it now.”I’m growing my hair and doing my own stunts. Luckily, I have done this role before, so I don’t have to do too much of preparation. I just need to learn my lines and show up,” he said.Jai and Ali have been sporting the same look since Dhoom and Dhoom 2 and will continue to do so in the next movie as well. Abhishek says its important to stick to the original characteristics of their parts.”The film needs to cater to a select audience and has a loyal fan base. I don’t think ‘Dhoom’ should go far away from that. Jai and Ali should not look completely different from what they have always looked,” he said.”I don’t want to lose the image the audience has of Jai Dixit. If I come suddenly with a different body and different clothes, Jai will lose his characteristics. Minor cosmetic changes are fine, but I would not like to change Jai and Ali too much,” Abhishek said.advertisementlast_img read more
